Curriculum Policy
Contemporary English Department
In accordance with the Diploma Policy, we compose a systematic bachelor’s program (curriculum map, numbering, course discription, etc.) that takes into account compulsory courses, electives, and the ordering of required courses such as general education courses, specialized courses, and language courses, and establish course subjects through appropriate educational methods and evaluation.
Education Content
- In the general education courses, we instill the ability to create new value through societal participation in the future in courses such as “Christian Studies,” a class based on our school motto, a course that cultivates the knowledge and skills that are the basis of our specialized courses such as our Career Planning course, Volunteer course, and compulsory Japanese Literacy course.
- In the language courses, classes are composed according to proficiency levels. We cultivate effective English skills according to the progress of the students, regularly using outside testing and e-Learning.
- In the specialized (major) courses, we set up our major programs to develop human resources who will acquire deep knowledge and high expertise sought in a global society, such as multicultural cooperation, international business, tourism/hospitality, interpretation/translation, and English professions. Furthermore, the major programs are set up to develop human resources who will independently tackle the discovery, analysis, and problem solving of diversified subjects and can flourish internationally in the future. We also set up a study abroad program for students.
- The elective courses are set up in order for students to acquire rich and vast knowledge and skills of their own choosing, beyond the framework of their major.
- The “graduation research,” a compilation of one’s university studies, brought to fruition using acquired knowledge and honed versatility.
Education Method
- In English education, the foundational CORE course group and the developmental ACE course group are organized with small numbers of students and classes for different proficiency levels, and we tackle lessons with various active learning techniques.
- We strive for education that incorporates various active learning techniques in the general education courses and specialized courses, such as the Japanese literacy course through team teaching, project course through PBL, on the job training internship course, and fieldwork course.
Assessment Method
We strive to create a organized and systematic bachelor’s program. We are constantly working on devising and improving educational methods, based on the assessment methods below, that will increase the students’ motivation to learn, and connect definitively to greater academic achievements.
- The state of criterion referenced self-evaluation check, held by the students themselves every semester.
- Results of the data from the student awareness survey.
- External evaluation (PROG) through application of tests.
- Class evaluation and implementation record.
International Communications Department
