Christian Education

Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies was established to carry out the spirit of Christian education (School Regulations, First Article). For this reason, the school offers programs in Christianity (School Regulations, Second Article). A brief outline is listed below. The school chaplain and committee on religion are responsible for the implementation and management of these programs.

1. Chaplain

Associate Professor Konishi Tetsuro is responsible for Christian education programs and religious guidance on campus.

2. Curriculum in Christianity

The Curriculum in Christianity provides cultural knowledge about Christianity. The “Christianity I” and “Christianity II” courses are required for degree programs. (This does not apply to short-term international students in the JASIN and NICS programs.)

3. Chapel

Chapel Hour is an important time to affirm the spirit of the school. It is open to all students and staff.

  • Date: Every Wednesday when school is in session
  • Time: 12:40 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Room: 4th floor hall (411)
  • Contents: Prelude, Hymn, Bible Reading, Address, Prayer, Postlude

4.Main Annual Functions

  • Religion Orientation (for first-year students) – early April
  • Religion Week (lecture, movie screening, panel exhibition, etc.) – late October
  • Christmas Chapel (Christmas song chorus in multiple languages) – mid-December
  • Chapel News (Christian studies bulletin) – late March
